Surah 23: Al-Mu’minun
المؤمنون
Ayah 1
Certainly will the believers have succeeded:
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ Qad aflaha almu/minoon — 🔊
Ayah 2
They who are during their prayer humbly intent
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى صَلَاتِهِمْ خَـٰشِعُونَ Allatheena hum fee salatihimkhashiAAoon — 🔊
Ayah 3
And they who turn away from ill speech
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَنِ ٱللَّغْوِ مُعْرِضُونَ Wallatheena hum AAani allaghwimuAAridoon — 🔊
Ayah 4
And they who are observant of zakāh
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِلزَّكَوٰةِ فَـٰعِلُونَ Wallatheena hum lizzakatifaAAiloon — 🔊
Ayah 5
And they who guard their private parts
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَـٰفِظُونَ Wallatheena hum lifuroojihim hafithoon — 🔊
Ayah 6
Except from their wives or those their right hands possess for indeed, they will not be blamed -
إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ Illa AAala azwajihim awma malakat aymanuhum fa-innahum ghayru maloomeen — 🔊
Ayah 7
But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors -
فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ Famani ibtagha waraa thalikafaola-ika humu alAAadoon — 🔊
Ayah 8
And they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ Wallatheena hum li-amanatihimwaAAahdihim raAAoon — 🔊
Ayah 9
And they who carefully maintain their prayers -
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَوَٰتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ Wallatheena hum AAala salawatihimyuhafithoon — 🔊
Ayah 10
Those are the inheritors
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ Ola-ika humu alwarithoon — 🔊
Ayah 11
Who will inherit al-Firdaus They will abide therein eternally.
ٱلَّذِينَ يَرِثُونَ ٱلْفِرْدَوْسَ هُمْ فِيهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ Allatheena yarithoona alfirdawsa humfeeha khalidoon — 🔊
Ayah 12
And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay.
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِن سُلَـٰلَةٍ مِّن طِينٍ Walaqad khalaqna al-insana minsulalatin min teen — 🔊
Ayah 13
Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging [i.e., the womb].
ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ نُطْفَةً فِى قَرَارٍ مَّكِينٍ Thumma jaAAalnahu nutfatan feeqararin makeen — 🔊
Ayah 14
Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allāh, the best of creators
ثُمَّ خَلَقْنَا ٱلنُّطْفَةَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقْنَا ٱلْعَلَقَةَ مُضْغَةً فَخَلَقْنَا ٱلْمُضْغَةَ عِظَـٰمًا فَكَسَوْنَا ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ لَحْمًا ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُ خَلْقًا ءَاخَرَ ۚ فَتَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَ Thumma khalaqna annutfataAAalaqatan fakhalaqna alAAalaqata mudghatanfakhalaqna almudghata AAithamanfakasawna alAAithama lahmanthumma ansha/nahu khalqan akhara fatabarakaAllahu ahsanu alkhaliqeen — 🔊
Ayah 15
Then indeed, after that you are to die.
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُم بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ لَمَيِّتُونَ Thumma innakum baAAda thalikalamayyitoon — 🔊
Ayah 16
Then indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, will be resurrected.
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ تُبْعَثُونَ Thumma innakum yawma alqiyamatitubAAathoon — 🔊
Ayah 17
And We have created above you seven layered heavens, and never have We been of [Our] creation unaware.
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعَ طَرَآئِقَ وَمَا كُنَّا عَنِ ٱلْخَلْقِ غَـٰفِلِينَ Walaqad khalaqna fawqakum sabAAa tara-iqawama kunna AAani alkhalqi ghafileen — 🔊
Ayah 18
And We have sent down rain from the sky in a measured amount and settled it in the earth. And indeed, We are Able to take it away.
وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۢ بِقَدَرٍ فَأَسْكَنَّـٰهُ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ ذَهَابٍۭ بِهِۦ لَقَـٰدِرُونَ Waanzalna mina assama-imaan biqadarin faaskannahu fee al-ardiwa-inna AAala thahabin bihi laqadiroon — 🔊
Ayah 19
And We brought forth for you thereby gardens of palm trees and grapevines in which for you are abundant fruits and from which you eat.
فَأَنشَأْنَا لَكُم بِهِۦ جَنَّـٰتٍ مِّن نَّخِيلٍ وَأَعْنَـٰبٍ لَّكُمْ فِيهَا فَوَٰكِهُ كَثِيرَةٌ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ Faansha/na lakum bihi jannatinmin nakheelin waaAAnabin lakum feeha fawakihukatheeratun waminha ta/kuloon — 🔊
Ayah 20
And [We brought forth] a tree issuing from Mount Sinai which produces oil and food [i.e., olives] for those who eat.
وَشَجَرَةً تَخْرُجُ مِن طُورِ سَيْنَآءَ تَنۢبُتُ بِٱلدُّهْنِ وَصِبْغٍ لِّلْـَٔاكِلِينَ Washajaratan takhruju min toori saynaatanbutu bidduhni wasibghin lilakileen — 🔊
Ayah 21
And indeed, for you in livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from that which is in their bellies, and for you in them are numerous benefits, and from them you eat.
وَإِنَّ لَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ لَعِبْرَةً ۖ نُّسْقِيكُم مِّمَّا فِى بُطُونِهَا وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ كَثِيرَةٌ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ Wa-inna lakum fee al-anAAamilaAAibratan nusqeekum mimma fee butoonihawalakum feeha manafiAAu katheeratun waminhata/kuloon — 🔊
Ayah 22
And upon them and on ships you are carried.
وَعَلَيْهَا وَعَلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ تُحْمَلُونَ WaAAalayha waAAala alfulki tuhmaloon — 🔊
Ayah 23
And We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, “O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?”
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ فَقَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَـٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ Walaqad arsalna noohan ilaqawmihi faqala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha malakum min ilahin ghayruhu afala tattaqoon — 🔊
Ayah 24
But the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, “This is not but a man like yourselves who wishes to take precedence over you; and if Allāh had willed [to send a messenger], He would have sent down angels. We have not heard of this among our forefathers.
فَقَالَ ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوْمِهِۦ مَا هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُرِيدُ أَن يَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَأَنزَلَ مَلَـٰٓئِكَةً مَّا سَمِعْنَا بِهَـٰذَا فِىٓ ءَابَآئِنَا ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ Faqala almalao allatheenakafaroo min qawmihi ma hatha illa basharunmithlukum yureedu an yatafaddala AAalaykum walaw shaaAllahu laanzala mala-ikatan ma samiAAnabihatha fee aba-ina al-awwaleen — 🔊
Ayah 25
He is not but a man possessed with madness, so wait concerning him for a time.”
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌۢ بِهِۦ جِنَّةٌ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ بِهِۦ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ In huwa illa rajulun bihi jinnatunfatarabbasoo bihi hatta heen — 🔊
Ayah 26
[Noah] said, “My Lord, support me because they have denied me.”
قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرْنِى بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ Qala rabbi onsurnee bimakaththaboon — 🔊
Ayah 27
So We inspired to him, “Construct the ship under Our observation and Our inspiration, and when Our command comes and the oven overflows put into it [i.e., the ship] from each [creature] two mates and your family, except him for whom the decree [of destruction] has proceeded. And do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be drowned.
فَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ أَنِ ٱصْنَعِ ٱلْفُلْكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا وَوَحْيِنَا فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَمْرُنَا وَفَارَ ٱلتَّنُّورُ ۙ فَٱسْلُكْ فِيهَا مِن كُلٍّ زَوْجَيْنِ ٱثْنَيْنِ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا مَن سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلْقَوْلُ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَلَا تُخَـٰطِبْنِى فِى ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ ۖ إِنَّهُم مُّغْرَقُونَ Faawhayna ilayhi ani isnaAAialfulka bi-aAAyunina wawahyina fa-ithajaa amruna wafara attannooru faslukfeeha min kullin zawjayni ithnayni waahlaka illaman sabaqa AAalayhi alqawlu minhum wala tukhatibneefee allatheena thalamoo innahum mughraqoon — 🔊
Ayah 28
And when you have boarded the ship, you and those with you, then say, ‘Praise to Allāh who has saved us from the wrongdoing people.’
فَإِذَا ٱسْتَوَيْتَ أَنتَ وَمَن مَّعَكَ عَلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ فَقُلِ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى نَجَّىٰنَا مِنَ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ Fa-itha istawayta anta waman maAAakaAAala alfulki faquli alhamdu lillahi allatheenajjana mina alqawmi aththalimeen — 🔊
Ayah 29
And say, ‘My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best to accommodate [us].‘”
وَقُل رَّبِّ أَنزِلْنِى مُنزَلًا مُّبَارَكًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْمُنزِلِينَ Waqul rabbi anzilnee munzalan mubarakanwaanta khayru almunzileen — 🔊
Ayah 30
Indeed in that are signs, and indeed, We are ever testing [Our servants].
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ وَإِن كُنَّا لَمُبْتَلِينَ Inna fee thalika laayatinwa-in kunna lamubtaleen — 🔊
Ayah 31
Then We produced after them a generation of others.
ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ قَرْنًا ءَاخَرِينَ Thumma ansha/na min baAAdihim qarnan akhareen — 🔊
Ayah 32
And We sent among them a messenger from themselves, [saying], “Worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?”
فَأَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِمْ رَسُولًا مِّنْهُمْ أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَـٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ Faarsalna feehim rasoolan minhum anioAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhuafala tattaqoon — 🔊
Ayah 33
And the eminent among his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter while We had given them luxury in the worldly life said, “This is not but a man like yourselves. He eats of that from which you eat and drinks of what you drink.
وَقَالَ ٱلْمَلَأُ مِن قَوْمِهِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِلِقَآءِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَأَتْرَفْنَـٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا مَا هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يَأْكُلُ مِمَّا تَأْكُلُونَ مِنْهُ وَيَشْرَبُ مِمَّا تَشْرَبُونَ Waqala almalao min qawmihi allatheenakafaroo wakaththaboo biliqa-i al-akhiratiwaatrafnahum fee alhayati addunyama hatha illa basharun mithlukum ya/kulumimma ta/kuloona minhu wayashrabu mimma tashraboon — 🔊
Ayah 34
And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers.
وَلَئِنْ أَطَعْتُم بَشَرًا مِّثْلَكُمْ إِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ Wala-in ataAAtum basharan mithlakuminnakum ithan lakhasiroon — 🔊
Ayah 35
Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]?
أَيَعِدُكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ إِذَا مِتُّمْ وَكُنتُمْ تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَنَّكُم مُّخْرَجُونَ AyaAAidukum annakum itha mittumwakuntum turaban waAAithaman annakummukhrajoon — 🔊
Ayah 36
How far, how far, is that which you are promised
۞ هَيْهَاتَ هَيْهَاتَ لِمَا تُوعَدُونَ Hayhata hayhata limatooAAadoon — 🔊
Ayah 37
It [i.e., life] is not but our worldly life - we die and live, but we will not be resurrected.
إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا ٱلدُّنْيَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحْيَا وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَبْعُوثِينَ In hiya illa hayatunaaddunya namootu wanahya wamanahnu bimabAAootheen — 🔊
Ayah 38
He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allāh, and we will not believe him.”
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا وَمَا نَحْنُ لَهُۥ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ In huwa illa rajulun iftaraAAala Allahi kathiban wama nahnulahu bimu/mineen — 🔊
Ayah 39
He said, “My Lord, support me because they have denied me.”
قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرْنِى بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ Qala rabbi onsurnee bimakaththaboon — 🔊
Ayah 40
[Allāh] said, “After a little, they will surely become regretful.”
قَالَ عَمَّا قَلِيلٍ لَّيُصْبِحُنَّ نَـٰدِمِينَ Qala AAamma qaleelin layusbihunnanadimeen — 🔊
Ayah 41
So the shriek seized them in truth and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people.
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ غُثَآءً ۚ فَبُعْدًا لِّلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ Faakhathat-humu assayhatubilhaqqi fajaAAalnahum ghuthaanfabuAAdan lilqawmi aththalimeen — 🔊
Ayah 42
Then We produced after them other generations.
ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ قُرُونًا ءَاخَرِينَ Thumma ansha/na min baAAdihimquroonan akhareen — 🔊
Ayah 43
No nation will precede its time [of termination], nor will they remain [thereafter].
مَا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ Ma tasbiqu min ommatin ajalahawama yasta/khiroon — 🔊
Ayah 44
Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations So away with a people who do not believe.
ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلَنَا تَتْرَا ۖ كُلَّ مَا جَآءَ أُمَّةً رَّسُولُهَا كَذَّبُوهُ ۚ فَأَتْبَعْنَا بَعْضَهُم بَعْضًا وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ أَحَادِيثَ ۚ فَبُعْدًا لِّقَوْمٍ لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ Thumma arsalna rusulana tatrakulla ma jaa ommatan rasooluha kaththaboohufaatbaAAna baAAdahum baAAdan wajaAAalnahumahadeetha fabuAAdan liqawmin la yu/minoon — 🔊
Ayah 45
Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a clear authority1
ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَأَخَاهُ هَـٰرُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا وَسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ Thumma arsalna moosa waakhahuharoona bi-ayatina wasultaninmubeen — 🔊
Ayah 46
To Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were arrogant and were a haughty people.
إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ قَوْمًا عَالِينَ Ila firAAawna wamala-ihi fastakbaroowakanoo qawman AAaleen — 🔊
Ayah 47
They said, “Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are for us in servitude?”
فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَنُؤْمِنُ لِبَشَرَيْنِ مِثْلِنَا وَقَوْمُهُمَا لَنَا عَـٰبِدُونَ Faqaloo anu/minu libasharayni mithlinawaqawmuhuma lana AAabidoon — 🔊
Ayah 48
So they denied them and were of those destroyed.
فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَكَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْمُهْلَكِينَ Fakaththaboohuma fakanoomina almuhlakeen — 🔊
Ayah 49
And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided.
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ Walaqad atayna moosaalkitaba laAAallahum yahtadoon — 🔊
Ayah 50
And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them within a high ground having level [areas] and flowing water.
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَأُمَّهُۥٓ ءَايَةً وَءَاوَيْنَـٰهُمَآ إِلَىٰ رَبْوَةٍ ذَاتِ قَرَارٍ وَمَعِينٍ WajaAAalna ibna maryama waommahu ayatanwaawaynahuma ila rabwatin thatiqararin wamaAAeen — 🔊
Ayah 51
[Allāh said], “O messengers, eat from the good foods and work righteousness. Indeed I, of what you do, am Knowing.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلرُّسُلُ كُلُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ وَٱعْمَلُوا۟ صَـٰلِحًا ۖ إِنِّى بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ عَلِيمٌ Ya ayyuha arrusulukuloo mina attayyibati waAAmaloo salihaninnee bima taAAmaloona AAaleem — 🔊
Ayah 52
And indeed this, your religion, is one religion and I am your Lord, so fear Me.”
وَإِنَّ هَـٰذِهِۦٓ أُمَّتُكُمْ أُمَّةً وَٰحِدَةً وَأَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمْ فَٱتَّقُونِ Wa-inna hathihi ommatukum ommatan wahidatanwaana rabbukum fattaqoon — 🔊
Ayah 53
But they [i.e., the people] divided their religion among them into portions [i.e., sects] - each faction, in what it has rejoicing.
فَتَقَطَّعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَهُم بَيْنَهُمْ زُبُرًا ۖ كُلُّ حِزْبٍۭ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ فَرِحُونَ FataqattaAAoo amrahum baynahumzuburan kullu hizbin bima ladayhim farihoon — 🔊
Ayah 54
So leave them in their confusion for a time.
فَذَرْهُمْ فِى غَمْرَتِهِمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ Fatharhum fee ghamratihim hattaheen — 🔊
Ayah 55
Do they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children
أَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُم بِهِۦ مِن مَّالٍ وَبَنِينَ Ayahsaboona annama numidduhumbihi min malin wabaneen — 🔊
Ayah 56
Is [because] We hasten for them good things? Rather, they do not perceive
نُسَارِعُ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ ۚ بَل لَّا يَشْعُرُونَ NusariAAu lahum fee alkhayratibal la yashAAuroon — 🔊
Ayah 57
Indeed, they who are apprehensive from fear of their Lord
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ خَشْيَةِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ Inna allatheena hum min khashyatirabbihim mushfiqoon — 🔊
Ayah 58
And they who believe in the signs of their Lord
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِـَٔايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ يُؤْمِنُونَ Wallatheena hum bi-ayatirabbihim yu/minoon — 🔊
Ayah 59
And they who do not associate anything with their Lord
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِرَبِّهِمْ لَا يُشْرِكُونَ Wallatheena hum birabbihim layushrikoon — 🔊
Ayah 60
And they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful because they will be returning to their Lord -
وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَآ ءَاتَوا۟ وَّقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ رَٰجِعُونَ Wallatheena yu/toona maataw waquloobuhum wajilatun annahum ila rabbihim rajiAAoon — 🔊
Ayah 61
It is those who hasten to good deeds, and they outstrip [others] therein.
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يُسَـٰرِعُونَ فِى ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ وَهُمْ لَهَا سَـٰبِقُونَ Ola-ika yusariAAoona feealkhayrati wahum laha sabiqoon — 🔊
Ayah 62
And We charge no soul except [with that within] its capacity, and with Us is a record which speaks with truth; and they will not be wronged.
وَلَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا ۖ وَلَدَيْنَا كِتَـٰبٌ يَنطِقُ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ Wala nukallifu nafsan illawusAAaha waladayna kitabun yantiqu bilhaqqiwahum la yuthlamoon — 🔊
Ayah 63
But their hearts are covered with confusion over this, and they have [evil] deeds besides that [i.e., disbelief] which they are doing,
بَلْ قُلُوبُهُمْ فِى غَمْرَةٍ مِّنْ هَـٰذَا وَلَهُمْ أَعْمَـٰلٌ مِّن دُونِ ذَٰلِكَ هُمْ لَهَا عَـٰمِلُونَ Bal quloobuhum fee ghamratin min hathawalahum aAAmalun min dooni thalika hum lahaAAamiloon — 🔊
Ayah 64
Until when We seize their affluent ones with punishment at once they are crying [to Allāh] for help.
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَخَذْنَا مُتْرَفِيهِم بِٱلْعَذَابِ إِذَا هُمْ يَجْـَٔرُونَ Hatta itha akhathnamutrafeehim bilAAathabi itha hum yaj-aroon — 🔊
Ayah 65
Do not cry out today. Indeed, by Us you will not be helped.
لَا تَجْـَٔرُوا۟ ٱلْيَوْمَ ۖ إِنَّكُم مِّنَّا لَا تُنصَرُونَ La taj-aroo alyawma innakum minnala tunsaroon — 🔊
Ayah 66
My verses had already been recited to you, but you were turning back on your heels.
قَدْ كَانَتْ ءَايَـٰتِى تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنتُمْ عَلَىٰٓ أَعْقَـٰبِكُمْ تَنكِصُونَ Qad kanat ayatee tutlaAAalaykum fakuntum AAala aAAqabikum tankisoon — 🔊
Ayah 67
In arrogance regarding it conversing by night, speaking evil.
مُسْتَكْبِرِينَ بِهِۦ سَـٰمِرًا تَهْجُرُونَ Mustakbireena bihi samiran tahjuroon — 🔊
Ayah 68
Then have they not reflected over the word [i.e., the Qur’ān], or has there come to them that which had not come to their forefathers?
أَفَلَمْ يَدَّبَّرُوا۟ ٱلْقَوْلَ أَمْ جَآءَهُم مَّا لَمْ يَأْتِ ءَابَآءَهُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ Afalam yaddabbaroo alqawla am jaahumma lam ya/ti abaahumu al-awwaleen — 🔊
Ayah 69
Or did they not know their Messenger, so they are toward him disacknowledging?
أَمْ لَمْ يَعْرِفُوا۟ رَسُولَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَهُۥ مُنكِرُونَ Am lam yaAArifoo rasoolahum fahum lahumunkiroon — 🔊
Ayah 70
Or do they say, “In him is madness”? Rather, he brought them the truth, but most of them, to the truth, are averse.
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ بِهِۦ جِنَّةٌۢ ۚ بَلْ جَآءَهُم بِٱلْحَقِّ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ لِلْحَقِّ كَـٰرِهُونَ Am yaqooloona bihi jinnatun bal jaahumbilhaqqi waaktharuhum lilhaqqi karihoon — 🔊
Ayah 71
But if the Truth [i.e., Allāh] had followed their inclinations, the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them would have been ruined. Rather, We have brought them their message but they, from their message, are turning away.
وَلَوِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلْحَقُّ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ لَفَسَدَتِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهِنَّ ۚ بَلْ أَتَيْنَـٰهُم بِذِكْرِهِمْ فَهُمْ عَن ذِكْرِهِم مُّعْرِضُونَ Walawi ittabaAAa alhaqqu ahwaahumlafasadati assamawatu wal-arduwaman feehinna bal ataynahum bithikrihim fahum AAanthikrihim muAAridoon — 🔊
Ayah 72
Or do you, [O Muḥammad], ask them for payment? But the reward of your Lord is best, and He is the best of providers.
أَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ خَرْجًا فَخَرَاجُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌ ۖ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَ Am tas-aluhum kharjan fakharajurabbika khayrun wahuwa khayru arraziqeen — 🔊
Ayah 73
And indeed, you invite them to a straight path.
وَإِنَّكَ لَتَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ Wa-innaka latadAAoohum ila siratinmustaqeem — 🔊
Ayah 74
But indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter are deviating from the path.
وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ عَنِ ٱلصِّرَٰطِ لَنَـٰكِبُونَ Wa-inna allatheena layu/minoona bil-akhirati AAani assiratilanakiboon — 🔊
Ayah 75
And even if We gave them mercy and removed what was upon them of affliction, they would persist in their transgression, wandering blindly.
۞ وَلَوْ رَحِمْنَـٰهُمْ وَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِم مِّن ضُرٍّ لَّلَجُّوا۟ فِى طُغْيَـٰنِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ Walaw rahimnahum wakashafnama bihim min durrin lalajjoo fee tughyanihimyaAAmahoon — 🔊
Ayah 76
And We had gripped them with suffering [as a warning], but they did not yield to their Lord, nor did they humbly supplicate, [and will continue thus]
وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَـٰهُم بِٱلْعَذَابِ فَمَا ٱسْتَكَانُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمْ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ Walaqad akhathnahum bilAAathabifama istakanoo lirabbihim wama yatadarraAAoon — 🔊
Ayah 77
Until when We have opened before them a door of severe punishment, immediately they will be therein in despair.
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًا ذَا عَذَابٍ شَدِيدٍ إِذَا هُمْ فِيهِ مُبْلِسُونَ Hatta itha fatahnaAAalayhim baban tha AAathabin shadeedin ithahum feehi mublisoon — 🔊
Ayah 78
And it is He who produced for you hearing and vision and hearts [i.e., intellect]; little are you grateful.
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنشَأَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَ وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ Wahuwa allathee anshaa lakumu assamAAawal-absara wal-af-idata qaleelan matashkuroon — 🔊
Ayah 79
And it is He who has multiplied you throughout the earth, and to Him you will be gathered.
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى ذَرَأَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ Wahuwa allathee tharaakum feeal-ardi wa-ilayhi tuhsharoon — 🔊
Ayah 80
And it is He who gives life and causes death, and His is the alternation of the night and the day. Then will you not reason?
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ وَلَهُ ٱخْتِلَـٰفُ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ ۚ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ Wahuwa allathee yuhyeewayumeetu walahu ikhtilafu allayli wannahariafala taAAqiloon — 🔊
Ayah 81
Rather they say like what the former peoples said.
بَلْ قَالُوا۟ مِثْلَ مَا قَالَ ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ Bal qaloo mithla ma qalaal-awwaloon — 🔊
Ayah 82
They said, “When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?
قَالُوٓا۟ أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ Qaloo a-itha mitnawakunna turaban waAAithamana-inna lamabAAoothoon — 🔊
Ayah 83
We have been promised this, we and our forefathers, before; this is not but legends of the former peoples.”
لَقَدْ وُعِدْنَا نَحْنُ وَءَابَآؤُنَا هَـٰذَا مِن قَبْلُ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّآ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ Laqad wuAAidna nahnu waabaonahatha min qablu in hatha illa asateerual-awwaleen — 🔊
Ayah 84
Say, [O Muḥammad], “To whom belongs the earth and whoever is in it, if you should know?”
قُل لِّمَنِ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ Qul limani al-ardu waman feehain kuntum taAAlamoon — 🔊
Ayah 85
They will say, “To Allāh.” Say, “Then will you not remember?”
سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ ۚ قُلْ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ Sayaqooloona lillahi qul afalatathakkaroon — 🔊
Ayah 86
Say, “Who is Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Great Throne?”
قُلْ مَن رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ ٱلسَّبْعِ وَرَبُّ ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ Qul man rabbu assamawatiassabAAi warabbu alAAarshi alAAatheem — 🔊
Ayah 87
They will say, “[They belong] to Allāh.” Say, “Then will you not fear Him?”
سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ ۚ قُلْ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ Sayaqooloona lillahi qul afalatattaqoon — 🔊
Ayah 88
Say, “In whose hand is the realm of all things - and He protects while none can protect against Him - if you should know?”
قُلْ مَنۢ بِيَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَهُوَ يُجِيرُ وَلَا يُجَارُ عَلَيْهِ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ Qul man biyadihi malakootu kulli shay-inwahuwa yujeeru wala yujaru AAalayhi in kuntumtaAAlamoon — 🔊
Ayah 89
They will say, “[All belongs] to Allāh.” Say, “Then how are you deluded?”
سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ ۚ قُلْ فَأَنَّىٰ تُسْحَرُونَ Sayaqooloona lillahi qul faannatusharoon — 🔊
Ayah 90
Rather, We have brought them the truth, and indeed they are liars.
بَلْ أَتَيْنَـٰهُم بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ Bal ataynahum bilhaqqiwa-innahum lakathiboon — 🔊
Ayah 91
Allāh has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have [sought to] overcome others. Exalted is Allāh above what they describe [concerning Him].
مَا ٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِن وَلَدٍ وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُۥ مِنْ إِلَـٰهٍ ۚ إِذًا لَّذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَـٰهٍۭ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلَا بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ ۚ سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ Ma ittakhatha Allahumin waladin wama kana maAAahu min ilahin ithanlathahaba kullu ilahin bima khalaqa walaAAalabaAAduhum AAala baAAdin subhana AllahiAAamma yasifoon — 🔊
Ayah 92
[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, so high is He above what they associate [with Him].
عَـٰلِمِ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ فَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ AAalimi alghaybi washshahadatifataAAala AAamma yushrikoon — 🔊
Ayah 93
Say, [O Muḥammad], “My Lord, if You should show me that which they are promised,
قُل رَّبِّ إِمَّا تُرِيَنِّى مَا يُوعَدُونَ Qul rabbi imma turiyannee mayooAAadoon — 🔊
Ayah 94
My Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people.”
رَبِّ فَلَا تَجْعَلْنِى فِى ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ Rabbi fala tajAAalnee fee alqawmi aththalimeen — 🔊
Ayah 95
And indeed, We are Able to show you what We have promised them.
وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّرِيَكَ مَا نَعِدُهُمْ لَقَـٰدِرُونَ Wa-inna AAala an nuriyaka manaAAiduhum laqadiroon — 🔊
Ayah 96
Repel, by [means of] what is best, [their] evil. We are most knowing of what they describe.
ٱدْفَعْ بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ ۚ نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَصِفُونَ IdfaAA billatee hiya ahsanu assayyi-atanahnu aAAlamu bima yasifoon — 🔊
Ayah 97
And say, “My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils,
وَقُل رَّبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزَٰتِ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ Waqul rabbi aAAoothu bika min hamazatiashshayateen — 🔊
Ayah 98
And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me.”
وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَن يَحْضُرُونِ WaaAAoothu bika rabbi an yahduroon — 🔊
Ayah 99
[For such is the state of the disbelievers] until, when death comes to one of them, he says, “My Lord, send me back
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَ أَحَدَهُمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ قَالَ رَبِّ ٱرْجِعُونِ Hatta itha jaa ahadahumualmawtu qala rabbi irjiAAoon — 🔊
Ayah 100
That I might do righteousness in that which I left behind.”1 No! It is only a word he is saying; and behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.
لَعَلِّىٓ أَعْمَلُ صَـٰلِحًا فِيمَا تَرَكْتُ ۚ كَلَّآ ۚ إِنَّهَا كَلِمَةٌ هُوَ قَآئِلُهَا ۖ وَمِن وَرَآئِهِم بَرْزَخٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ LaAAallee aAAmalu salihanfeema taraktu kalla innaha kalimatun huwa qa-iluhawamin wara-ihim barzakhun ila yawmi yubAAathoon — 🔊
Ayah 101
So when the Horn is blown, no relationship will there be among them that Day, nor will they ask about one another.
فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَلَآ أَنسَابَ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَلَا يَتَسَآءَلُونَ Fa-itha nufikha fee assoorifala ansaba baynahum yawma-ithin walayatasaaloon — 🔊
Ayah 102
And those whose scales are heavy [with good deeds] - it is they who are the successful.
فَمَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ Faman thaqulat mawazeenuhu faola-ikahumu almuflihoon — 🔊
Ayah 103
But those whose scales are light - those are the ones who have lost their souls, [being] in Hell, abiding eternally.
وَمَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ فِى جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدُونَ Waman khaffat mawazeenuhu faola-ikaallatheena khasiroo anfusahum fee jahannama khalidoon — 🔊
Ayah 104
The Fire will sear their faces, and they therein will have taut smiles
تَلْفَحُ وُجُوهَهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَهُمْ فِيهَا كَـٰلِحُونَ Talfahu wujoohahumu annaruwahum feeha kalihoon — 🔊
Ayah 105
[It will be said], “Were not My verses recited to you and you used to deny them?”
أَلَمْ تَكُنْ ءَايَـٰتِى تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ Alam takun ayatee tutlaAAalaykum fakuntum biha tukaththiboon — 🔊
Ayah 106
They will say, “Our Lord, our wretchedness overcame us, and we were a people astray.
قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا شِقْوَتُنَا وَكُنَّا قَوْمًا ضَآلِّينَ Qaloo rabbana ghalabatAAalayna shiqwatuna wakunna qawman dalleen — 🔊
Ayah 107
Our Lord, remove us from it, and if we were to return [to evil], we would indeed be wrongdoers.”
رَبَّنَآ أَخْرِجْنَا مِنْهَا فَإِنْ عُدْنَا فَإِنَّا ظَـٰلِمُونَ Rabbana akhrijna minhafa-in AAudna fa-inna thalimoon — 🔊
Ayah 108
He will say, “Remain despised therein and do not speak to Me.
قَالَ ٱخْسَـُٔوا۟ فِيهَا وَلَا تُكَلِّمُونِ Qala ikhsaoo feeha walatukallimoon — 🔊
Ayah 109
Indeed, there was a party of My servants who said, ‘Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the merciful.’
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فَرِيقٌ مِّنْ عِبَادِى يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ ءَامَنَّا فَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا وَٱرْحَمْنَا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ Innahu kana fareequn min AAibadeeyaqooloona rabbana amanna faghfirlana warhamna waanta khayru arrahimeen — 🔊
Ayah 110
But you took them in mockery to the point that they made you forget My remembrance, and you used to laugh at them.
فَٱتَّخَذْتُمُوهُمْ سِخْرِيًّا حَتَّىٰٓ أَنسَوْكُمْ ذِكْرِى وَكُنتُم مِّنْهُمْ تَضْحَكُونَ Fattakhathtumoohumsikhriyyan hatta ansawkum thikree wakuntumminhum tadhakoon — 🔊
Ayah 111
Indeed, I have rewarded them this Day for their patient endurance - that they are the attainers [of success].”
إِنِّى جَزَيْتُهُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ بِمَا صَبَرُوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ هُمُ ٱلْفَآئِزُونَ Innee jazaytuhumu alyawma bima sabarooannahum humu alfa-izoon — 🔊
Ayah 112
[Allāh] will say, “How long did you remain on earth in number of years?”
قَـٰلَ كَمْ لَبِثْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ عَدَدَ سِنِينَ Qala kam labithtum fee al-ardiAAadada sineen — 🔊
Ayah 113
They will say, “We remained a day or part of a day; ask those who enumerate.”
قَالُوا۟ لَبِثْنَا يَوْمًا أَوْ بَعْضَ يَوْمٍ فَسْـَٔلِ ٱلْعَآدِّينَ Qaloo labithna yawman aw baAAdayawmin fas-ali alAAaddeen — 🔊
Ayah 114
He will say, “You stayed not but a little - if only you had known.
قَـٰلَ إِن لَّبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا ۖ لَّوْ أَنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ Qala in labithtum illaqaleelan law annakum kuntum taAAlamoon — 🔊
Ayah 115
Then did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned?”
أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ أَنَّمَا خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ عَبَثًا وَأَنَّكُمْ إِلَيْنَا لَا تُرْجَعُونَ Afahasibtum annama khalaqnakumAAabathan waannakum ilayna la turjaAAoon — 🔊
Ayah 116
So exalted is Allāh, the Sovereign the Truth;2 there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.
فَتَعَـٰلَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْكَرِيمِ FataAAala Allahualmaliku alhaqqu la ilaha illa huwarabbu alAAarshi alkareem — 🔊
Ayah 117
And whoever invokes besides Allāh another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.
وَمَن يَدْعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ لَا بُرْهَـٰنَ لَهُۥ بِهِۦ فَإِنَّمَا حِسَابُهُۥ عِندَ رَبِّهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ Waman yadAAu maAAa Allahi ilahanakhara la burhana lahu bihi fa-innamahisabuhu AAinda rabbihi innahu la yuflihualkafiroon — 🔊
Ayah 118
And, [O Muḥammad], say, “My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful.”
وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱغْفِرْ وَٱرْحَمْ وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ Waqul rabbi ighfir warhamwaanta khayru arrahimeen — 🔊
